Bank Exchange Rates for Gambian Dalasi

The currency of Gambia is called Dalasi. Each Dalasi has been divided into 100 Bututs. The code for the currency is denoted as GMD. Past in the year 1971, the coins, called Bututs were introduced in Gambia. The denominations were 1 Bututs, 5 Bututs, 10 Bututs, 50 Bututs, 25 Bututs, and 1 Dalasi. At that time, 1 and 5 Bututs were made of Bronze and the 10 Bututs were made of Brass. The rest currencies were made of cupro – nickel. All the coins and dalas of this series was illustrated by the president of Gambia, Mr. Jawara.
The modified 1 Dalasi coin was circulated in the year 1987. It was modelled like the United Kingdom's coin of 50 pence.

Currency Rate for Gambia

In 1998, the currency was redesigned as per the way of Dawda Jawara and it replaced the existing coins. But the already circulated coins remained valid. In this modification, only the 1 Dalasi coins were made downsized in weight and size. Currently, the 25, 50 and 100 Bututs are available as currency. These are the 1998 released versions of the currency. The other denominations like 1, 5 and 10 bututs were discontinued for dropping in valuation day by day.
Currently, there are 5 values of bank notes available in the country those are 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 dalasis. Gambia started issuing the bank notes from 27th July 1996.

Currency Rates for Gambian Dalasi

After that, Gambia has modified their notes in 2006. In this update, they have changed the design of the notes along with paper thickness and added new security features. The white border of the previous version was removed. The 5 and 10 dalasis has designed with a varnish coating over it for assuring a long life. For the 100 dalasi notes, the bank has added a silver foil at the front side with 100 embossed over it.
A special note of 20 dalasis of polymer commemorative was released. This special note was very limited and circulated for the 20 years of Yahya Jammehs reign.
The exchange rate of the currency is $1 = 46 to 48 Dallasi.

Dalasi coins are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 bututs and 1 dalasi, whereas banknotes are available in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 Dalasis.
