Since September 1996 the currency of Ukraine is known as hryvnia. In medieval period hryvnia is known as Kievan Rus. 100 kopiyky is subdivided by the Hryvnia. In eleven century the currency of Kievan Rus called as grivna. The grivna meaning is mane. Mane indicating as which is valuable and worn on a neck basically something made in silver or gold. In future, it is used to describe some ingots which are made silver or gold. The distinction between hryvnia and Grivna is eroded out by recommendation of National Bank of Ukraine. Both of the word means Historical and practical.
The Ukrainian letter is similar to the sign of Hryvnia with a double stroke. It is symbolising stabilisation. In 2005 Hryvnia is encoded as U+20B4 with a Unicode 4.1.
If we look at the history Ukraine was under in Roman Empire. Till 1917 their currency was called Kievan Rus. After independence Ukrainian National Republic used their currency Hryvnia. This currency was introduced at the time of Victor Yushchenko, the chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine. The first bank note of this currency was signed by the chairman of national bank Vadym Hetman.
In 1992 first time in Ukraine issued the coins., that time between 1-50 kopecks was introduced. In 1997 1 Hryvnia was introduced in addition but this was rear in the market. In 2012 the bank announced that the coins of 1-50 kopeks were to expensive too produced in the recent market value. Thus after 2013, the coins of 1-50 kopecks were not produced. But till now a circulation of this coins was still valid. In 2016 more coins were circulated at values of 1.4 thousand million UAH.
In 1996 the national bank of Ukraine was introduced hryvnia bank notes. That time 1,2,5,10,20 hryven were circulated.1,,50,100 hryvnia notes of second series also introduced. British De La Rue was printed and designed this notes.
All notes were issued by Natinal bank of Ukraine which is a legal tender. After 2008 the old notes are rarely circulated.
